I went to Ecuador with Abuelita many years ago. I remember being young and naive. Was used to things a certain way. We were hungry and Abuelita asked me what I wanted for dinner. I told her chicken and she said she would make Caldo. She rolls up her sleeve and goes to the backyard. Grabs a chicken and twists its neck. My mouth dropped, I never seen anything like that. My sweet grandmother caught a chicken and killed it. It took me sometime to get over that image. But as I look back, those are the things that made her the women that I remember. Strong, graceful, intelligent, and beautiful. She was old school through and through....and she showed an 8 year old boy that Grandma is Gansta. I will never forget that moment and lesson. I love you and I miss you.
